Botanical Candles: Soy Wax and Pure Essential Oils
Each candle in our Botanical Collection is an expression of the land we tend, the plants that grow here and the hands that carefully transform them. Whether you are creating a moment of quiet for yourself or searching for a meaningful gift, these candles carry the spirit of New Mexico into your home.
Our Essential Oil Blends
Our scent profiles were developed in close collaboration with Christa J. Obuchowski, a botanical perfumer and distiller whose work is rooted in plant medicine and traditional extraction methods. Each blend is built from pure botanicals, including our own farm-grown lavender, steam distilled on site in small batches.

Essential Oils vs. Synthetic Fragrance
The scent of a Los Poblanos candle is gentle, and that is entirely by design. Pure essential oils behave very differently from synthetic fragrance compounds. Because they are derived directly from plants, their aromas are layered, subtle and alive. They evolve in the air rather than overwhelming a room, inviting a quieter, more intentional sensory experience.
Benefits of Soy Wax
Every candle is hand-poured in small batches using 100% natural soy wax. Unlike paraffin, a petroleum by-product that releases soot and chemical compounds when burned, soy wax is plant-based, renewable and burns cooler and cleaner. Its lower melting point releases fragrance more gently and evenly, making it a natural match for our essential oil blends.
Candle Care
A beautifully burning candle is not an accident, it is the result of a few simple, consistent habits. Follow these steps to get the most from every burn.
- Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use. A too-long wick creates a large, unstable flame, excess soot and dark marks on your vessel. A small trim makes a meaningful difference.
- Let the wax melt completely across the entire surface to the edges of the glass on your first use. This prevents tunneling, the most common cause of shortened candle life.
- Limit burn sessions to 3–4 hours. Extended burning overheats the wax and can cause the wick to "mushroom."
- Always place your candle on a level, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts and flammable objects. Drafts cause uneven burning and unnecessary smoke.
- Once the wax is spent, your candle's life isn't over. Pop it in the freezer for a few hours, the wax will contract and lift away cleanly, then wash with warm soapy water and repurpose as a desk organizer, succulent planter or whatever your home calls for.
